I feel fat. My back hurts. My ankles are swollen. I'm always tired. These are just a few things expecting moms give as reasons as to why they don't schedule maternity photos. While these feelings are all valid, don't let them stop you from remembering one of the most important parts of your life. Only you know what it took to get you here. Whether it was naturally, IVF, surrogacy or after a loss, you are here in this moment.
So, What is a Maternity Shoot?
A maternity shoot is a photo session that is is captured during the pregnancy of an expecting mother. Maternity photography is meant to capture the beauty around your growing baby bump and expanding family. As a professional photographer, I always like to suggest moms schedule their sessions anywhere from 28-34 weeks.
Tips for a Picture Perfect Maternity Session
So, how can you make sure your maternity session turns out perfect? Easy. 1. Go in with the attitude that you will enjoy the experience. 2. Booking a photographer that you can feel comfortable with. 3. And some planning to get the experience that you want. That's really it...When all 3 of those things come together there is some much fun to be had. When you know that you and your baby are the center focus, you have the ability to be comfortable. You should always feel comfortable to be yourself and live in the current moment. A great photographer will help encourage you and promote a healthy atmosphere.
Wardrobe
When planning your session, one of the biggest things to consider is your wardrobe. Many professional photographers offer a client closet, helping you to not worry about what you're going to wear. I always encourage my moms to consider bringing their own casual look, something that would match their personalities, to go along with the gowns and body suits I offer in my client closet. Whatever you decide, just be comfortable and feel as beautiful as you can. Remember this is your session.
Including Spouse and/or Children
Always go for what you want. If you want your spouse or significant other included let's include them. This is a major memory for the both of you and this moment deserves to be celebrated by all. This is especially true if this is your first baby. If you have children, we love to have a few shots of your entire family as you mark this occasion. So don't be afraid to ask your photographer about including your family, because they are very much apart of this journey with you.
